Friday Fish and Chips

The protein in this lunch comes from frozen fish sticks.  I should have made my own version but I was busy bailing out my washing machine with a small cup. . . long story.  Anyway, these sticks are made by Natural Sea, processed food, but not entirely hideous.  They are made with cod fillets, organic whole wheat flour and canola oil and numerous other things  - -all things I can pronounce, and more importantly, recognize.  Also, Natural Sea "supports sustainable fishing practices"  hmmmm, a bit more sketchy. Exactly what does that mean? Like, ideally, in a perfect world, we SUPPORT sustainable fishing practices, but, at this time, due to labor costs, and our desire for a high profit margin we buy fish that has been caught and killed by any method, anywhere and at anytime.  We sure do give a big thumbs up to those who are doing the right thing. . . . why must I be so cynical?

Natural Sea Fish Sticks; Full Belly Farm organic snap peas and carrots; organic apricot from the Farmer's Market; and Eden Brown Rice Chips.

waste generated: none

Hi Jeanine, Sorry to post through your comments but I couldn't see a contact address. I have a new blog called www.lovinglunch.blogspot.com and I am looking for photos of healthy, seasonal homemade lunches. Would you have a photo you could send me? I would link it back to your blog. Kind regards, Lynne

hi - just curious about sending fish sticks into school and temperature/food safety issues. were they packed frozen and you let them defrost to be eaten? or did you heat them up beforehand?

Now that school's back on, will you be resuming posts?

Jeaaaaniiiiinnne.......Oh, Jeaaaaniiiiiinne! Where are you Jeanine? We miss your blog. We all hope everything is alright with you and your family. If all is hunky dory, we would love it if you began blogging again. We miss your ideas (those TJ swirls rock, like little guilt-free cookies), and those of us with young kids miss the mom humor (we all love it when we get 15 minutes at a go without a mysterious thunk and subsequent screaming). We're all thrilled that Vegan Lunchbox is back, albeit limited, but we miss your blog, too. Won't you come back?

Well, It looks like you might have abandoned your blog. As I said earlier when I was cyber-calling out your name, you've got a great blog here. I'll miss it. People move on to more important priorities, so if you are gone, I wish you well. I'm cleaning out my bookmarks today, so it looks like I'll say goodbye for now.

I went to my daughters' elementary school to sit with them at lunch yesterday. You know what the lunch buying kids were eating? Hot dogs, tater tots, chopped & formed fried chicken "patties" and chocolate cookie covered ice cream bars. The only other lunch packing kid ate a ham sandwich on white with individual packages of Capri Sun, potato chips, rice crispy bars, cookies and a chocolate pudding. We need more resources like this blog and the few others out there that inspire us to feed our kids better lunches. I'd try to start my own, but my computer skills stink. I can't even get my blogger identity to work anymore (I'm swan BTW). So I put out a call to you who know how to handle a computer and care about what we as a country are offering our kids to eat. Please create your own blogs about healthy lunches and what you're feeding your kids. The schools don't care. It's up to us to feed our kids better than what they have to offer. What you put up on your blog might inspire some mom like me struggling to come up with something else besides PB&J to pack in their child's lunch tomorrow.

I just found this blog and was sad to see that the last entry was in May of 2008. Have you relocated or is the blog inactive? I hope you've just relocated! Thanks!

Animal prints are also very popular amongst the kids. A very wide range of meerkat gift items are available online. Other animal motifs such as- giraffe, monkey and butterfly are also very popular amongst kids.
